The idea for this quilt came from post-it notes stuck to the Poundshop window in Peckham, a couple of days after the 2011 riots. Each note had a message written on it from a passer by who wanted to express their feelings about the riots. Some messages were political, some philosophical, some funny, some hopeful and most showing the love for Peckham! Immediately I envisaged this as a patchwork quilt. I photographed the originals and transferred the text onto fabric. With the help of local community groups, many of my students and friends, we hand embroidered the text onto the fabric post-its and I stitched the four hundred patches together.
