Last night I dreamt I had a baby, 2017 (27x25cm) is a book about sexual assault and how it has repercussions throughout a person’s life. Although it tells a personal story, it is one that others may well identify with.
The book has a narrative and is divided into chapters; starting with the dream of having a baby, followed by the nightmare of being raped and having an abortion, finishing with the reality of how this experience makes you feel. I have used fabric because of its tactility and association with children’s books. It uses limited text, telling the story with flat graphic hand and machine appliqued imagery. The translucency of the organdy fabric enables me to work with multi-layered images.
